One of the year’s best meteor showers is now at One of the year’s best meteor showers is now at its peak, The Perseid meteor shower…

Expect up to 100 meteors streaking overhead every hour as tiny fragments of Comet Swift-Tuttle slam into Earth’s atmosphere at about 133,000 mph (214,000 km/h). When these meteors burn up in our atmosphere, the intense friction superheats their outer layers.

The atoms inside become “excited,” and as they relax back to normal energy levels, they release photons at very specific wavelengths - which our eyes see as color. This is the same principle scientists use in spectroscopy to identify elements in stars, planets, and galaxies light-years away.

💫 Yellow - from glowing iron atoms, a major building block of rocky bodies.
💫 Purple - produced by calcium, which also gives fireworks some of their violet sparks.
💫 Orange - the glow of sodium, just like the light in old street lamps
💫 Blue-green - from magnesium, common in both meteorites and Earth’s crust.
💫 Red - caused by atmospheric oxygen and nitrogen excited by the meteor’s heat

So, when you watch the Perseid, you’re reading a chemical fingerprint from space, glowing across the sky in real time. Find a dark spot, let your eyes adjust, and enjoy nature’s annual elemental fireworks display!

Did we mention how good the fishing is right now? Did we mention how good the fishing is right now?

“There will be days when the fishing is better than one’s most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.”

We were able to capture some great on-site footage We were able to capture some great on-site footage last week during the couple of storms that blew through the Texas Hill Country. Here are just some of the pictures we took (with our iphone nonetheless) ⛈️

After and during a prolonged rain dance, we were given quite a show along our Llano River 🌈

In all, we received almost 4 inches in as many days with the river reaching 3,000 cfs and cresting at 11 feet, giving us a much needed boost of running water as we enter the summer months which should be a boon to fishing and kayaking 🎣🚣‍♀️
